Chapter 2 · Interactive course companion
Move along a production frontier. Recalculate opportunity cost. Change productivity, negotiate a trade, and watch specialization build an economy-wide PPF.
Scarcity made visible
The frontier separates attainable combinations from unattainable ones. Step through the production schedule, then place a test point to classify it relative to current resources and technology.
Current production technology
Production efficiency is not enough
Marginal cost rises as increasingly specialized resources move into herb-tray production. Marginal benefit falls as the community consumes more. Their intersection selects the preferred point.
Preferred point on the PPF
Productivity is not opportunity cost
Reem and Zayd work in a community print co-op that makes screen-printed posters and laser-cut signs. Change their maximum outputs per shift and watch the common-scale PPFs and opportunity-cost ratios update together.
Common axes, honest slopes
Specialize, exchange, consume
This lab returns to the fixed co-op baseline from Lab 03: Reem can make 8 posters or 40 signs, and Zayd can make 32 posters or 32 signs. Reem specializes in laser-cut signs and Zayd in screen-printed posters. Change the quantity traded and the number of signs paid per poster. A rate between their opportunity costs is necessary, but the quantity must also leave feasible, preferred bundles.
Consumption after specialization
Individual frontiers add through specialization
Using that fixed co-op baseline, Zayd has the lower cost of screen-printed posters, so he creates the first 32. Only then does Reem switch from laser-cut signs to posters. Move total poster output and watch the active producer and co-op-wide opportunity cost change at the kink.

Problem 16 in motion
Orchid and Falcon share the linear current PPF C = 150 − 5K. Move today's capital-goods choice along that frontier. Each unit of capital produced today raises next year's consumption intercept by 2.5 units and its capital intercept by 0.5 unit.
Current and next-year frontiers
Interdependence needs institutions
Firms, markets, property rights, and money coordinate specialized plans. Switch between real flows and the opposite money flows to follow what households supply, firms produce, and each side receives.
